Top 5 Wednesday | Rainy Day Fantasy & Sci Fi Reads

Hello and welcome back to another Top 5 Wednesday! Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey from gingerreadslainey over on YouTube and is now hosted by Sam from Thoughts On Tomes over on YouTube. They’re both great bloggers so be sure to check out their channels! This week’s topic is “rainy day reads” and boy was it hard to narrow down! Personally, I think any book is good for a rainy day and what book you read depends on the person! So to narrow it down, I picked books from the genre I read most, Fantasy/Sci Fi. Personally, I think rainy days are great days to hunker down with those huger books and a hot beverage and just get lost in the world your reading about, so naturally I chose larger books and series for this one. Here we go…

Saga by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples

Saga is a graphic novel series which I’ve recently gotten into and personally, I think it’s perfect for a rainy day! Graphic novels are great to lose yourself in with the colors and the words and the art and the story! And this graphic novel series is a great one! It tells the story of two star-crossed lovers and their baby on the run through the galaxies (yes, galaxies, plural). It’s so unique and imaginative and just fun. But heads up: this does have graphic and explicit sexual and violent content so it’s for mature audiences only (sorry guys).

The Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas

What would a bookish list be without the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas? The answer: nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Anyhoo. This begins as the story of a renouned girl assassin fighting for her freedom and soon turns into so much more! There’s assassins, there’s magic, there’s cute guys, and it’s a six book series that isn’t yet finished. Perfect for a rainy day!

The Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy by Laini Taylor.

These books are huge, but they are so worth it! Taylor is a beautiful writer and she creates a gorgeous world that is just so great to soak in. I don’t even know how to describe this series, but it has chimera and angels and wish granting teeth necklaces and star-crossed lovers and it’s just amazing!

The Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare

This is a huge book series and world, filled with now three sets of series (The Mortal Instruments series, The Infernal Devices Trilogy, and now The Dark Artifices Trilogy). I’d say begin with either The Mortal Instruments or The Infernal Devices but do not start with The Dark Artifices. This is a GIGANTIC world and it’s perfect to sit down with for a long time and explore.

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

This is a big book with a very interesting and engaging format and a really unique story. It flies by, though. It’s such an engaging read, that it just completely sucks you in and then WHAM! It’s over and you’re sobbing, shaking your fist and cursing the authors’ names. It’s the perfect sci fi for a rainy day!

  1. The best way to read the shadowhunters chronicles is in the way they came out to get the full effect (even though I didn’t do it myself 😂 but now that I’m reading TID after TMI I know it is better that way)
All the other series are on my TBR waiting for me to get to them *sight*
