Top 5 Wednesday | Favorite Parental Figures

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme created by Lainey from gingerreadslainey and hosted by Sam from Thoughts On Tomes (both on YouTube). This week’s theme is “mothers/maternal figures.” Honestly I had a bit of trouble with this one. Oftentimes in YA (which is mostly what I read), the parents or either dead or not around, which is a trend I’m not really a fan of but what can ya do? I also noticed that oftentimes when parents are involved, it’s usually dads (I have no idea why because moms are total bosses). So I changed the topic a bit to be my favorite parental figures. Here they are:

Molly Weasley (Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling)

Molly Weasley is obviously a BAMF. Tough, loving, and fiercely protective, Molly would (and does) do anything for those she views as family. Plus she’s practically a surrogate mother to Harry!

Mr. Covey (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han)

Mr. Covey is one of my favorite fictional parents! It’s gotta be tough being a single dad raising not one, not two, but three girls all on his own! But Mr. Covey does is with so much love, not at all minding the pink and the baking!

Lola Nolan’s Dads (Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins)

Lola’s dads adopted her when she was young and take great care of her. Loving and funny they nurture and raise a great daughter!

Brimstone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor)

Brimstone is interesting because he’s not human. Still, that doesn’t stop himm from being a great parent to Karou. Raising her gently and lovingly he nurtures a strong, kind young woman!

Alana and Marko (Saga by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples)

Alana and Marko are too funny! They’re such newbie parents, but it’s obvious they would do literally anything to protect Hazel. They have such love for their daughter and it’s amazing to watch them transform as parents!
