The Monday Musts | July 18, 2016

It’s Monday, Monday, Monday!!! And you know what that means, folks! It’s time for The Monday Musts! The Monday Musts is a weekly meme hosted by Jessica at Lovin’ Los Libros in which we talk about our must reads, must listens, and must sees of the week!

Must Reads

A short while back Liselle at Lunch Time Librarian wrote an absolutely outstanding discussion post about writing diverse characters as a diverse person and #ownvoices and some problems that might ensue. I have nothing to say but, “YAAAAAASSSSS, GIRL!” Liselle brings up so many valid and incredibly true points and concerns and I just want everyone, readers and writers and publishing professionals alike, to read her discussion. Just–read it. Read it, read it, read it.

Must Listen

This week’s must listen goes to one of my new favorite songs, “That’s My Girl” by Fifth Harmony! I just can’t stop listening to the darn thing! Not only is the song catchy, but it’s a great feel good, empowering anthem! It reminds me of the good ol’ empowering anthems of the early 2000s by groups like Destiny’s Child

Must See

Exciting news on the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story front: a new “trailer” dropped! I say “trailer” in parenthesis because it’s really a behind-the-scenes peak which includes a few glimpses at footage. But it’s exciting still, even for a Star Wars newb such as yours truly!

  1. Thank you so much for sharing my post! It’s honestly a huge relief to realize that I wasn’t the only person experience the lesser discussed negative aspects of #ownvoices.

And that trailer! I’m loving how female-centric these new Star Wars movies are.
